Trump touches upon his contribution to settlement between Baku, Yerevan during his meeting with Erdogan

During a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, Recep Tayyip Erdogan, in the Oval Office, US President Donald Trump touched upon his contribution to the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, Report informs.

The White House chief also emphasized Ankara's influence on regional developments.

"He's a highly respected man. He's respected very much in his country and all throughout Europe and throughout the world where they know him," Trump said, gesturing to Erdogan. "It's an honour to have him."

"We've had a very good relationship for a long time," Trump said, adding, " This is a tough man. This is a guy who's highly opinionated. Usually, I don't like opinionated people, but I always like this one."

On August 8, in Washington, the leaders of Azerbaijan and Armenia, in the presence of the US president, signed a seven-point joint declaration. One of the provisions of this document concerns the launch of the Zangazur Corridor (the Trump Route) as part of the unblocking of regional communications.

In addition, the foreign ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia initialed an Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations.
