Tunisia views the protection of the rights of people with disabilities and their social inclusion as a sustainable state priority, Tunisia's Minister of Housing and Infrastructure, Salah Eddine Zouari, said at the signing ceremony of a partnership agreement between UN-Habitat and the Saudi Arabian Alwaleed Philanthropies Foundation at WUF13 in Baku, Report informs.
He noted that Tunisia continues to improve its legislative framework in this area.
"Tunisia has made the protection of people with disabilities and their social inclusion a sustainable state priority. The country is also developing its legal system, including a framework law for the protection and promotion of the rights of people with disabilities," the minister noted.
Zouari emphasized that the international human rights system considers the right to decent housing a fundamental human right.
"The Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities clearly enshrines the right of persons with disabilities to independent living and full participation in society, including access to buildings, transportation, facilities and services, including housing," he said.
