Mukhtar Babayev, Swiss official discuss climate and environmental challenges

Azerbaijan"s Presidential Representative for Climate Issues, Mukhtar Babayev, met with Katrin Schneeberger, State Secretary and Director of the Federal Office for the Environment of Switzerland on the sidelines of Eco Expo Central Asia 2026 in Samarkand.

According to a post by Babayev on social media platform X, cited by Report, the meeting took place during the 8th Assembly of the Global Environment Facility (GEF).

The parties discussed the GEF's priorities for Central Asia, the implementation progress of projects supported by the fund, regional environmental and climate challenges, and opportunities related to the upcoming GEF replenishment cycle.

The discussions also focused on ways to improve the efficiency, accessibility, and effectiveness of the fund's resources in addressing environmental and climate-related issues across the region.
