Javier Torner: UNECE is working on creating integrated database for housing planning

UNECE strives to ensure data uniformity for more effective development of housing policy, urban planning, and land management in countries across the region, stated UNECE (United Nations Economic Commission for Europe) Regional Adviser Javier Torner, speaking at a panel discussion within the framework of WUF13, dedicated to the topic "Regional Group of Eastern Europe and Central Asia," Report informs.

"For a region that stretches from the US to Central Asia, ensuring data consistency is extremely challenging. Among our countries, there are both states closely integrated with the EU and developing economies, and the main challenge is to ensure that the collected data can be useful for everyone," he said.

According to Torner, UNECE is working on creating an integrated database covering issues of spatial planning, housing, and land relations.

He noted that the organization also cooperates with cadastral and registration systems of various countries in the region, providing states and cities with expert support in the field of land management.

In addition, the UNECE representative emphasized that the organization has been preparing country profiles dedicated to issues of housing, land relations, and urban development for over 30 years.

"This year, we are updating Uzbekistan's profile ten years after the previous review. Work on Montenegro has also recently been completed, where recommendations were prepared on the development of social housing and a social rental system," Torner added.
