The United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) is committed to working with governments to save lives, protect people, and strengthen economies, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said in a video message to participants of the World Environment Day, held in Azerbaijan in partnership with UNEP, Report informs.
He emphasized the need to drastically reduce carbon emissions and accelerate the transition to renewable energy.
It is necessary to implement more sustainable and affordable energy solutions and ensure real energy security, he noted, adding that the fastest and most cost-effective way to achieve this goal is already known, and effective solutions exist.
It is essential to protect forests, lands, and seas, and to help communities adapt to climate change, which is becoming more devastating every year, the secretary-general noted.
