Milli Majlis adopts statement on European Parliament resolution - UPDATED - FULL TEXT

Azerbaijan's Milli Majlis (parliament) has adopted a statement in response to a resolution passed by the European Parliament.

Report presents the full text of the statement:

"The Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan strongly condemns the 18 December 2025 resolution of the European Parliament and categorically protests against this prejudiced political act. This document, which relies upon false information and fabricated claims and represents a further failed attempt to dress specific criminal acts in political garb, is yet another futile endeavour to cast a shadow on the rule of law and to interfere in judicial processes crudely.

As is evident, whilst unable to abandon its anti‑Azerbaijani rhetoric, the European Parliament is once again demonstrating political hypocrisy by continuing the use of a topic as important as human rights to its own concealed ends and for destructive undertakings. The European Parliament, which had invariably shown indifference towards the 30-year-long occupation of our lands, destruction of hundreds of our cities and villages as well as of historical, religious and cultural heritage, and which had blinked at the violation of the human rights of the 1 million refugees and internally displaced persons, then responded to the restoration of our territorial integrity and sovereignty following the 44-day Patriotic War and anti-terrorist measures as well as the enforcement of the international law standards and principles by adopting in excess of 10 disgraceful resolutions against Azerbaijan.

It will not be out of the place to remember that the European Parliament was abused as one of the principal instruments of the hybrid attacks that were launched against Azerbaijan before and during such a substantial event as the COP29. That proved once more that the process whereby resolutions are adopted within the European Parliament is controlled purposefully by specific interest groups. As observations indicate, the majority of Members of the European Parliament have not the minute comprehension of not only the essence but of also even the texts of the draft resolutions which they vote in. This, in turn, testifies to the deplorable condition in which European Parliamentarism finds itself.

A number of characteristic features of the European Parliament's profile are known full well not only to Azerbaijan but also many other countries which have been met with unfounded and absurd accusations emanating from this body. The resolution in question, then, discloses the true nature of the European Parliament whilst also exposing its genuine intentions.

The uncovering of the numerous facts evidencing the depth of entrenchment of corruption and bribery within the European Parliament proves that this adverse tendency happens to be at the heart of this body's daily activities. As a rule, resolutions of a European Parliament that provides paid services to various interested circles feature as quid pro quo for the material benefit obtained.

It is lamentable as well that the European Parliament, with its consistently crusader-like approaches to certain processes, would become a platform to give voice and clear expression to Islamophobic and Turkophobic tendencies. Such biased attacks against Azerbaijan, an inseparable part of the Islamic and Turkic world, render demonstrable the intention of certain groups setting the tone for such tendencies in Europe to secure additional political gains. It is also undeniable that this resolution of the European Parliament constitutes part of a wide‑ranging plan.

The undeniable reality is that President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Mr Ilham Aliyev won peace just as he won the war. It was specifically the unwavering policy of the Head of State that proved decisive in maintaining lasting peace in the region of the South Caucasus.

And it turns out now that the progress in the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, which was achieved at the Washington Summit consequent to the sincere mediation by USA President Donald Trump on 8 August 2025, fails to be in the interest of certain circles. Having lost the capability of participating in pertaining processes and, indeed, of meddling with them, those circles now resort to such primitive steps taken against Azerbaijan, the initiator of peace, stability and co-operation in our region, to obstruct those processes indirectly.

Consequently, and in view also of everything state above, one could safely say that the European Parliament is attempting once more to veil its insidious intentions with the argumentation built upon baseless, lopsided and false assertions.

The Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan reiterates its resolute rejection and its opinion of it as unacceptable the aforementioned resolution of the European Parliament. Such resolutions can in no way have upon Azerbaijan nor sway our country from her path."

On December 18, 2025, the European Parliament (EP) adopted an unfair resolution against Azerbaijan, Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova stated, Report informs.

"This resolution reflects the European Parliament's disregard for state sovereignty. We cannot remain silent about such attempts. Our state is open to all cooperation where double standards are not allowed. No organization has the right to speak to Azerbaijan in this manner. Azerbaijan will continue to respond firmly to such biased steps in the future," Gafarova noted.

The speaker added that the agenda of the meeting includes the issue "On the approval of the Statement of the Milli Majlis of Azerbaijan": "The statement is directed against the hearing held yesterday in the European Parliament and the document adopted, which is full of false accusations."
