The world today faces great challenges. There are conflicts, economic crises, forced displacement, and rapid social changes. Amid these difficulties, persons with disabilities are often the first people in societies to face injustice and marginalization, Asia Abdel Mutaleb Yaghi, head of Jordan's "I am Human" Society for the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, said at an event dedicated to the topic "Independent living and inclusive cities for persons with disabilities" organized within the framework of Day 3 of the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku.
Report quotes her as saying in many parts of the world, policies merely written on paper are no longer sufficient:
"We must renew our approaches to social problems and humanitarian crises. We need practical and implementable solutions that start with small but meaningful, visible, and clear steps. I believe that the success of the future should not be measured solely by the speed of economic development or the height of buildings. The key indicator is the ability of every person to live in dignity, independence, and security, regardless of their situation and capabilities. For this reason, our meeting today is not just a discussion. It is an opportunity to redefine the concept of development. We must build a development model that leaves no one behind and accepts inclusivity not as an additional option, but as the foundation of real development."
