Santos was given enough time as Azerbaijan coach, says former goalie Veliyev

Former Azerbaijan national team and Qarabag goalkeeper Farhad Veliyev told Report that Fernandu Santos was given sufficient time as head coach of the national team.

Speaking about Santos' resignation, Veliyev said:

"Santos' achievements with Portugal's national team were well known to all of us. AFFA made the right decision by inviting him to lead our team. However, over time, it became clear that the coach could not deliver results with Azerbaijan and struggled to implement his playing style. He was given enough chances. The decision made after the heavy defeat to Iceland was appropriate. I believe the team will recover in time. Hopefully, the new decisions will be beneficial for our national team."

Fernandu Santos was appointed head coach of Azerbaijan in June last year. The Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) mutually terminated the contract with the Portuguese specialist today.
