The active participation of the CIS region in the International Comparison Program (ICP) is encouraging, according to Marko Olavi Rissanen, Program Manager for the ICP at the World Bank, Report informs.
He made this statement at the 3rd CIS International Statistical Forum held in Baku under the theme "Prospects of Statistics: International Projects."
Rissanen noted that the forum is taking place at a critical juncture for statistics: "Over the next three days, we will discuss key priorities, the transition to the 2025 System of National Accounts, the current phase of the 2024 ICP, preparations for the 2030 population and housing census, and monitoring of the Sustainable Development Goals. These topics are unified by a common thread-modernizing official statistics through advanced technologies, integrating data sources more closely, and building more resilient institutional frameworks. We will also hold a dedicated session on the ICP, where we'll reflect on the program's global and regional progress, the importance of purchasing power parity for economic and social analysis, and future prospects."
The World Bank representative expressed confidence that the forum will foster a rich exchange of ideas and experiences among national statistical services, international organizations, and the broader statistical community: "These discussions will strengthen the region's statistical capacity and contribute to global efforts to ensure that data remains a foundation for policymaking, planning, and development."
