Mastercard: Number of transactions within pilot project in Azerbaijan’s Shamakhi to reach 2M

In 2021, the number of plastic cards in Azerbaijan reached 10.4 million, and the volume of e-commerce made 5.3 billion manats, Azerbaijan Country Manager at Mastercard Erdem Cakar said, Report informs.
“Compared to 2017, the growth was 79% and 8 times, respectively. So, in 2017, there were 5.8 million plastic cards in circulation,” Cakar said.
He noted that the payment system is planning many innovative projects in Azerbaijan, and the joint campaign with the Bravo supermarket chain will continue.
He added that in Shamakhi city, the number of card transactions when paying in public transport will reach 2 million.
