ICPC president calls Baku 'Smartest City on Planet'

Baku has become the world capital of intellectual technologies and ideas, the 49th World Finals of the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) have opened there, Report informs.
The president of the ICPC Foundation, Bill Poucher, called the capital of Azerbaijan "the smartest city on planet Earth" thanks to the participation of the best student programmers from around the world.
In a conversation with journalists, he noted that the ICPC has existed for 49 years and is now approaching the end of the first half of the first century of the digital era.
"We have always encouraged talented students to develop problem-solving skills and create systems that benefit their community. That is what we do. And right now, the world finals of the ICPC are taking place here in Baku. So Baku, thanks to all these brilliant students, is the smartest city on planet Earth today. And they are incredibly inspired by how their lives can enrich the lives of their neighbors," Poucher emphasized.
According to him, today the ICPC has about 500,000 alumni.
"They, along with their colleagues, built a significant portion of the critical systems that we rely on today, including artificial intelligence technologies," he added.
