UN launches energy transition road map for Azerbaijan

The road map for Azerbaijan on Sustainable Development Goal 7 was officially launched during Baku Energy Week.

Report informs that, as UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific Armida Salsiah Alisjahbana noted in her video address to Baku Energy Week, the document covers key areas such as improving energy efficiency, promoting electromobility and strengthening Azerbaijan's role as a regional green energy hub.

"Central Asia has significant resources in renewable energy, including solar, wind and hydropower, and also occupies a strategic geographical position at the crossroads of major energy markets," she said, adding that, to accelerate the energy transformation in the region, it is necessary to increase investment in renewable energy projects, modernize power grid infrastructure, create a favorable environment for attracting private capital and expand cross-border electricity exchange.

"In this context, Azerbaijan is strengthening its position as a regional hub for green energy," Alisjahbana stressed.
