UBOC developing plan to increase gas production at Umid field

Work is currently underway to develop a concept aimed at increasing production volumes at the Umid gas field in the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea, CEO of Umid Babek Operating Company (UBOC) Umid Babek Operating Company Elkhan Bashirov said during the 31st Baku Energy Forum.

According to Report, he noted that the Umid field is one of Azerbaijan"s strategically important gas assets, with produced resources primarily directed toward meeting domestic demand.

Bashirov also highlighted ongoing work on a complex high-pressure well in the southern flank of the field, describing it as a technically challenging offshore project in the Caspian Sea.

"Such wells have never been drilled before, and this is the first highly complex project of this type in SOCAR's history," he said.

He added that the company is now developing a broader concept to increase production, including infrastructure expansion and capacity growth to intensify gas output.

The Umid field is the first gas-condensate discovery made in Azerbaijan after independence. It was discovered in 2010 and brought into production in 2012. Current estimates put its reserves at around 200 bcm of gas and 40 million tons of condensate, with current daily production at about 7 million cubic meters of gas.
