Tajikistan, Pakistan mull implementation of CASA-1000 project

President of Tajikistan Emomali Rahmon and Prime Minister of Pakistan Shehbaz Sharif has discussed the implementation of the CASA-1000 project during a working visit to Beijing, Report informs referring to the press service of the president of Tajikistan.

During the conversation, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of bilateral cooperation.

Particular attention was paid to the implementation of the CASA-1000 project and the development of the energy market in the region.

The parties noted the importance of cooperation in the transport sector, including the creation of a Joint Council of Transport Companies, and expressed interest in access to international transport corridors and seaports.

CASA-1000 is a multi-country infrastructure project to transmit 1,300 MW of excess hydroelectric power from Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan to South Asian countries, including Afghanistan and Pakistan, where there is a shortage of electricity.

The project involves the construction of new energy infrastructure, expands access to renewable energy, creates a common regional electricity market, bringing economic benefits to all participating countries.
