Stuart Shaw: BP sees its future in Azerbaijan for the next 30 years

BP has 30 years of operational experience in Azerbaijan and envisions continuing its presence in the country for the next three decades, Stuart Shaw, BP Vice President for Production in Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Türkiye, said on the second day of Baku Climate Action Week (BCAW2025).

According to Report, Shaw emphasized that BP intends to maintain a long-term partnership with Azerbaijan, while noting that future success cannot rely solely on traditional approaches: "If we continue to operate as we have until now, particularly regarding our carbon footprint and environmental practices, we will not be as successful as before."

He also discussed the development of the Shah Deniz project:

"Earlier this year, we confirmed plans to decarbonize operations at the Shah Deniz field. This involves a major compressor facility to be built in the Caspian Sea. It will not only be safer and more efficient but will operate based on electrification - powered by cables laid from the shore," he said.

According to the BP representative, this approach sets the direction for the company's future activities:

"Our partnerships and focus on environmental issues extend beyond current operations to future projects. Collaboration with SOCAR and technological partners is a prime example of this approach."
