The State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) will conduct exploration of deeper oil and gas layers in the central part of the Caspian Sea, SOCAR Vice President Arzu Javadova stated during panel discussions on the second day of Baku Energy Week, Report informs.
Javadova mentioned that SOCAR is focusing not only on traditional horizons but also on deeper, previously unexplored layers: "Although sufficient seismic data and drilled wells exist in the central part of the Caspian Sea, the region's potential has not been fully studied. We are not limiting ourselves to the traditional Fasila and Balakhani horizons. We are also evaluating deeper pre-Fasila layers, as well as shallow layers that have practically not been explored."
She noted that these directions could lead to the discovery of new oil and gas reserves in the future.
The official added that several projects in the central Caspian are already fully prepared for drilling: "For example, the Goshadash project is progressing successfully, and drilling is expected to begin soon. Another project is the Gunduz structure, part of the offshore cluster jointly developed with BP, which is also ready for drilling."
