BP and Azerbaijan's SOCAR are implementing a project to integrate all offshore seismic data from the Azerbaijani sector of the Caspian Sea into a single database, Dan Sparks, BP Vice President for Geology and Development for Azerbaijan, Georgia and Türkiye, said during a panel discussion at Baku Energy Week, according to Report.
"We are working to bring together the existing offshore seismic data into one large database. This will create an important foundation for future exploration activities. In terms of hydrocarbon resource density, the Caspian Basin surpasses even the Gulf of Mexico. Nevertheless, there are still underexplored areas in the region and gaps in seismic data," Sparks said.
According to him, the collection of additional seismic data and the integration of existing datasets will play a key role in discovering new hydrocarbon reserves.
