Macedonian banks ready to finance construction of interconnector for Azerbaijani gas transit to Central Europe

Azerbaijani gas will be of great importance in exports to Central European countries, Sanja Bozinovska, Minister of Energy, Mining and Mineral Resources of North Macedonia, said in an exclusive interview with Report.

"Regarding the gas interconnector with Serbia, a Feasibility Study (FS), Cost-Benefit Analysis (CBA), and Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) have been completed.

A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Serbia has been signed for the project's implementation. The Basic Project Design is expected to be prepared soon.

The total length of the interconnector is approximately 66.5 km, with a capacity of 1.4 bcm per year. Several Macedonian commercial banks have expressed interest in financing the project, which is planned for completion within the next 3.5 years," the minister stated.

She added, "Gas demand will continue to rise with the expansion of our national network. Transit to Serbia, Hungary, and further into Central Europe is being considered – and Azerbaijani gas will be essential for this process."
