Green energy output in Karabakh and East Zangazur to reach 1.6 GW by 2030

By 2030, Azerbaijan's Karabakh and East Zangazur are expected to produce 1.6 gigawatts of green energy, Azerbaijani Deputy Minister of Energy Orkhan Zeynalov said at the 1st Azerbaijan International Investment Forum (AIIF-2025), Report informs.

He recalled that the solar and wind energy potential in Karabakh is estimated at 10 GW: "One-fourth of Azerbaijan's water resources also originate from these regions. By 2030, the planned 1.6 GW of electricity production will be twice the amount needed for local consumption. The surplus energy can be exported via the Jabrayil energy hub to Nakhchivan, Türkiye, and other regions."

Zeynalov also noted that the green energy potential of Nakhchivan is currently being assessed.

"BCG US recently completed a feasibility study, estimating the technical potential at 25 GW and the economic potential at around 6–7 GW. The project envisions the creation of power generation capacities in Nakhchivan, with a second component involving the establishment of an intersystem line for direct export to Türkiye. This route could be further reinforced via the Jabrayil energy hub passing through Armenia and Nakhchivan," he added.
