Azerbaijan increases polyethylene exports by 18%

In January-May this year, Azerbaijan exported 43,822.5 (-17.9%) tons of polyethylene in primary forms for $62.259 million (+1.35%), Report informs, citing the statistics of the State Customs Committee.

In January-May 2022, the share of polyethylene in exports in the non-oil sector was 5.24% and in the country's total exports - 0.4%.

Over the past five months, $ 15.416 billion of foreign trade turnover fell to exports and $ 5.135 billion to imports. Over the past year, exports increased 2.1 times and imports by 16.9%.

Polyethylene and polypropylene are produced in Azerbaijan at the SOCAR Polymer plant. The SOCAR Polymer project includes a polypropylene plant with an annual production capacity of 184,000 tons and a high-density polyethylene plant with a yearly production of 120,000 tons. The polypropylene plant was inaugurated on July 18, 2018, with the participation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev and Italian President Sergio Mattarella. The export of polypropylene began on October 5 of the same year.
