Azerbaijan discusses expanding cooperation with GECF and IRENA

Azerbaijan held discussions on developing cooperation with the Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) and the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA), Report informs, citing Azerbaijan's Ministry of Energy.
The talks took place during Baku Energy Week, in meetings between Minister Parviz Shahbazov, GECF Secretary General Philip Mshelbila, and IRENA Director General Francesco La Camera.
In the meeting with GECF's Secretary General, discussions focused on global gas sector trends, the growing role of natural gas amid rising electricity demand, and its importance for energy stability and the energy transition. Strengthening cooperation between Azerbaijan and GECF and participation in the Forum's next Summit were also addressed.
During talks with IRENA's Director General, existing cooperation was praised, with emphasis on expanding joint initiatives in renewable energy and the significance of projects in this field. The partnership was noted as playing a crucial role in advancing the energy transition and green energy agenda.
The meeting also explored financing opportunities for green energy projects. Francesco La Camera expressed readiness to jointly assess projects and enhance coordination with international financial institutions to expand initiatives across Central Asia and regional countries.
Additionally, discussions covered regional integration of renewables, development of power grids, energy storage systems, and the expansion of interconnectors.
