Azerbaijan, ACWA Power mull implementation of wind energy projects

Azerbaijani Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov has discussed the progress of green energy projects in Azerbaijan with ACWA Power CEO Marco Arcelli, Report informs referring to the Ministry of Energy.
The parties discussed the implementation of industrial-scale wind energy production and transmission projects on land and at sea, noted the progress in launching the Khizi-Absheron wind power plant (240 MW) at full capacity, where 30 turbines have already been installed and the construction of one 220/33 kV substation has been completed and finishing work is underway at another.
As part of the network study conducted to integrate new, additional green energy capacities into the energy system for export and domestic consumption, an exchange of views took place on the joint implementation of a 200 MW wind power plant project.
Information was also provided on studies conducted to supply electricity from Nakhchivan to Türkiye, and the prospects for implementing a wind energy project with ACWA Power in this region were assessed. Particular attention was paid to the prospects for the development of offshore wind energy and the export potential of Azerbaijan.
Shahbazov and Arcelli discussed the measures taken in connection with the creation of a submarine cable across the Black Sea and interconnectors that will link Azerbaijan to Europe via Georgia and Türkiye on land.
The importance of interregional connections was emphasized, as well as data transmission along with electricity. It was noted that the fiber-optic component is currently being developed in parallel with the power transmission line.
