Negotioations ongoing on 2 solar power plants construction on Azerbaijan's Nakhchivan by 2027

Negotiations with investors on two solar power plants (SPPs) with a combined capacity of approximately 530 megawatts (MW) to create Green Energy Zone in Nakhchivan, Rana Humbatova, deputy director of the Azerbaijan Renewable Energy Agency (AREA), said at the Azerbaijan & Central Asia Green Energy Week 2025, Report informs.
She recalled that an Memorandum of Understanding was signed with A-Z Czech Engineering on cooperation in the construction of a solar power plant of up to 500 MW, as well as exploring the possibilities of establishing a transmission network for the export of electricity to Turkey. Additionally an Implementation Agreement to develop a 30 MW Solar Power Plant in Nakhchivan was signed with Nobel Energy.
According to her, the next step for Azerbaijan will be the development of a strategy for the period 2027-2030.
"One of the five priorities of the Socioeconomic Development Strategy for 2027-2030 of Azerbaijan, concerning 'green growth,' includes: strategic planning in the energy sector and regulatory environment; expanding the use of renewable energy sources; creating 'green energy zones' and 'green energy corridors'; integrating renewable energy and introducing energy storage systems; improving energy supply systems; and increasing energy efficiency," Humbatova added.
