Azerbaijan only South Caucasus country in QS Sustainability 2026

The results of the QS Sustainability 2026 ranking have been announced by the global ranking agency Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), Report informs, referring to the State Agency for Science and Higher Education of Azerbaijan.

In the current edition of the ranking, the number of Azerbaijani universities has risen to eight. This year, Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC), Baku State University (BSU), Azerbaijan State Oil and Industry University (ASOIU), Baku Engineering University (BEU), Azerbaijan Technical University (AzTU), Azerbaijan University of Architecture and Construction (AzUAC), Khazar University, and Western Caspian University are represented.

One university – UNEC– is ranked in the TOP‑800, one – BSU – in the TOP‑1000, while the other six are placed in the 1001+ and 1501+ positions.

It was noted that, particularly under the criterion Sustainable Development in Environmental Protection, three Azerbaijani universities are among the world's TOP‑400. In this category, BSU is ranked 57th globally, UNEC stood at 309th, and ASOIU at 398th. In this ranking, which identifies the world's leading universities in sustainable development, Azerbaijan is the only country from the South Caucasus represented.

The ranking evaluates universities' performance across three main areas: Environmental Impact (45%), Social Impact (45%), and Governance Model (10%).
