Khankandi hosts conference on managing environmental risks

On May 15, a conference themed Managing Environmental Risks for a Sustainable and Stable Future was held at Karabakh University, organized by the Main Department for Civil Defense Organization at the Ministry of Emergency Situations (MES).

Public Relations Department of the Restoration, Construction and Management Service in Khankandi city, Aghdara, and Khojaly districts told Report.

The event brought together officials of the Special Representative Office of the President of Azerbaijan in Khankandi city, Aghdara, and Khojaly districts, the Restoration, Construction and Management Service, as well as relevant state institutions and local organizations.

Before the conference, participants were introduced to special chemical protection and personal safety equipment, modern radiation devices, and firefighting and rescue machinery belonging to the MES. Ministry specialists provided detailed information on the use of the equipment and its application during emergencies.

In his speech, Shahin Bayramov, Rector of Karabakh University, emphasized the importance of awareness‑raising activities in the field of civil defense.

Major General Niyazi Zamanov, Head of the Main Department for Civil Defense Organization of the MES, spoke about the importance of timely identification and prevention of environmental risks, as well as inter‑agency coordination.

Representatives of the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, Azerbaijan Space Agency (Azercosmos), and the Azerbaijan State Water Resources Agency (ASWRA) also addressed the conference, stressing the significance of joint efforts in civil defense.

At the end of the event, employees who distinguished themselves in the organization of civil defense work were awarded the Honorary Diploma of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
