Fatma Yildirim: Azerbaijan plays active role in global climate agenda

Azerbaijan is playing an active role in the global climate agenda, Azerbaijani parliamentarian Fatma Yildirim said during Baku Climate Action Week, according to Report.

"Climate change is no longer a threat of the distant future but a serious challenge of today. We are not only talking about climate but also about governance, sustainable development, and building strong institutions. Azerbaijan is taking an active position in this process," she emphasized.

Yildirim noted that, under the directive of President Ilham Aliyev, the country has declared a "green transition" a national priority and proposed the liberated territories of Karabakh and Eastern Zangazur as zones for green energy. This involves not only technological innovation but also a shift in mindset.

"Hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan demonstrates the country"s active and responsible participation in the global climate agenda and provides a platform for broader discussion. We are convinced that without strengthening legal and institutional frameworks, achieving net-zero goals is impossible," she added.
