Azerbaijan nominates film 'Taghiyev. Oil' for Oscar

Azerbaijan has nominated the film "Taghiyev. Oil" for the Oscar in the category "Best International Feature Film," Chairman of the commission for the presentation of Azerbaijani films for the 98th Oscar Awards, director Shamil Aliyev told Report.
He noted that the nomination of the film for the Oscar Award will contribute to the international recognition of the national cinema.
The film "Tagiyev: Oil" was shot by the Baku Media Center with the support of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, the Ministry of Culture and the Cinema Agency of Azerbaijan.
The film adaptation is dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the death of Haji Zeynalabdin Taghiyev, who made a significant contribution to the development of society and the promotion of national values, inscribing his name in the annals of Azerbaijan. The filming of the film entered the history of Azerbaijani cinematography in its scale.
About 2,500 people took part in the crowd scenes of the film, which was shot in 76 different locations. More than 300 sets were made for the historical scenes. The general producer of the film is Arzu Aliyeva, the producer is Orman Aliyev, the director is Zaur Gasimli, the scriptwriters are Ismail Iman, Asif Isgandarli and Zaur Gasimli, the cameraman is Vladimir Artemyev, the artist is Sabuhi Atababayev, the costume designer is Vusal Rahim, the composer is Etibar Asadli.
A brief overview of the film: In the autumn of 1888, Baku is preparing for the visit of Alexander III. Millionaire and member of the Baku City Duma Haji Zeynalabdin Tagiyev is fighting for influence and status in society. The mayor Orlovsky, taking advantage of his position, wants to take over the oil field of Teymurbekov, who committed suicide. And Ismayil, the eldest son of Haji, meets the general's daughter Nurjahan Arablinskaya and intends to marry her.
