Azerbaijan resumes black caviar supplies to one of Gulf countries

In January-September this year, Azerbaijan exported 50 kg of sturgeon caviar (black caviar) for $61,760, according to the State Statistics Committee, Report informs.
This is 2.15% more in value terms and 25% more in quantitative terms compared to the same period last year.
During the reporting period, 10 kg of black caviar for $33,400 were delivered to the UAE, 20 kg for $15,970 to the US, 10 kg for $8,040 to Hong Kong, 10 kg for $4,350 to another country.
After a four-year hiatus, supplies to the UAE have resumed. Compared to the same period in 2016, exports to this country increased in value terms by 4.5 times, although quantitatively it remained stable. Caviar wasn’t exported to other countries over the past 10 years (Note: official statistics on foreign trade in the public domain as of 2011).
In the first nine months of 2021, 2.66 tons of black caviar for $806,400 were imported to Azerbaijan. Compared with the indicators of the same period last year, the import of these products increased 2.7 times both in value and in quantitative terms.
Caviar is imported to Azerbaijan mainly from China. In January-September 2020, China accounted for 95.7% of imports of black caviar, in 2019 - 90.44%, in 2018 - 82.04%, in 2017 – for 96.65%, in 2016 - 93.1%, in 2015 - 100%. During the reporting period, 2.65 tons of products worth $800,000 were imported from this country.
This is 2.8 times more than in the same period last year, both in value and in quantitative terms. Azerbaijan also imported black caviar from Iran, Belarus and the Netherlands. Products were purchased from these countries for $4,690, $1,300 and $0,370, respectively.
