Majnun Mammadov: Food wheat yield to reach 5 tons - Exclusive

Azerbaijan aims to raise the average yield in food-grade wheat production to 5 tons, stated Minister of Agriculture Majnun Mammadov in his statement to Report.

The minister noted that the sown areas of farmers included in the country's food wheat program are being expanded: "Last year, 126 thousand tons of food wheat were harvested from 22,000 hectares under the program. This year, the area has been increased to 29,000 hectares. We plan to further increase this indicator every year."

Mammadov emphasized that the main goal is to improve results by increasing productivity: "Last year, a yield of 5.7 tons per hectare was recorded for food wheat. Meanwhile, the average yield at the national level is approximately around 3 tons. Our main goal is to raise wheat production yields in Azerbaijan from 3 tons to 5 tons."
