In January-July this year, Azerbaijan became one of the main suppliers of potatoes to Belarus, Report informs referring to the EastFruit analytical platform.
Ukraine was the biggest supplier of potatoes to Belarus in the first seven months of this year, from where 15,500 tons of potatoes were imported. Belarus also bought potatoes from Russia, North Macedonia, Egypt and Germany.
The process of harvesting potatoes in Belarusian farms continues, but Belarus also imports potatoes from other countries. This is a rather unusual phenomenon, because, as a rule, during the harvesting of potatoes, their prices in the country reach their minimum values. In general, Belarus is known as a major exporter, not an importer of potatoes.
The import of potatoes in 2021, especially during the harvest, became possible due to the high prices for them. This week, wholesale prices for potatoes in Belarus reached $0.30 per kg and were higher than in all other countries of the region, except Russia.
